Great Falls at Dawn

From Great Falls Park on the Maryland side there is a path over several foot bridges to a lookout point at the Falls, where this photo was taken. Changing sky conditions and river levels guarantee that the scene will never be the same as the last time you visited.

Great Falls Tavern and Sycamore

The Great Falls Tavern sits by Lock #20 of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. It was renovated in late 2002 by the National Park Service. Stately sycamores line the Canal as if to protect it.

Gorge at Great Falls in Snow

On the Canal a few hundred yards downstream of the Great Falls Tavern there is an overlook of a large gorge that diverts some of the Potomac into stiller waters.
